starting out

I started 'playing' golf a couple of weeks ago. I use the term very loosely, because I didn't actually 'play'. My partner Neil has played golf all his life, I have never shown any interest or had a go. Since we've moved we now have quite a big garden and he has been practising in the garden with these little pastic balls. He never puts anything away so they are always lying around. I was out playing with Carlos (cat) one day on my own and was a bit bored so I picked up one of the clubs and started hitting these balls. I have listened to Neil over the years droning on about technique so I had a bit of an idea. Keep elbows straight, engage the core, focus on the swing not hitting the ball etc. Hey it worked - I could hit them, and they got airborn. So I persisted every time I was on my own in the garden. Then one day he was there hitting some balls and I picked up a club and started hitting. He was amazed! He has now taken over coaching. We went to a pitch and put near Whitchurch which was fairly painful.
But I have carried on practising and we went to Hawkstone Park driving range on Monday. My aim was to hit 50 yards. I did this. My next target is 100 yards. When I can do this I will play a proper game.
We went to the driving range again today and they went a little further and then we came back and worked on my swing. We got a sack of shit from the paddock and I hit a club in to it. Apparently Leadbetter does this - hmm I doubt he uses horse shit!
Anyway I can feel the difference and I think I am well on track to hit that 100 yards. Also I got the 8 iron going which I couldnt hit for the life of me earlier. The trouble is they are Neils clubs and a bit long. I was shortening it too much.
